What citizenship means for you

Naturalization is the final step: the point where a lawful permanent resident becomes a full U.S. citizen. Citizenship brings the right to vote, the ability to petition for more family members, protection from deportation, and access to a U.S. passport.

The process can feel overwhelming, especially the interview and civics test. That is exactly where IHF steps in. Our immigration attorneys and DOJ accredited representatives review your eligibility, the team prepares your N-400, and we offer citizenship classes to prepare you for your interview.

Senior Civics Instructor: Uriel E.

Affiliated with Ed. W. Clark High School, Clark County School District as vice director. Uriel has 13 years of experience teaching citizenship. He is certified as a World Language and Political Science teacher with a Master in Education.

Junior Civics Instructor: Edwin G.

Graduated from the University of Nevada Las Vegas. Edwin teaches U.S. History and World History. He was also part of the Nevada National Guard.

Spanish Civics Instructor: Francisco D.

Instructs classes in Spanish for LPRs whose primary language is Spanish and who qualify to take the exam in Spanish. Also serves as an interpreter at USCIS as an additional service for seniors, if needed.

Who qualifies

  • You are at least 18 years old.
  • You have been a lawful permanent resident for 5 years (or 3 years if married to and living with a U.S. citizen).
  • You have lived in Nevada for at least 3 months.
  • You can show continuous residence and physical presence in the U.S.
  • You can read, write, and speak basic English, and pass the civics test. Some applicants qualify for an age-based exemption.
  • You can show good moral character for the required period.

Becoming a U.S. Citizen, answered

What does IHF cost?
We do an eligibility screening to understand your situation before any fees are set. We use a sliding-scale fee based on your income. We tell you the cost upfront and help you apply for a USCIS fee waiver if you qualify.
Do I need to speak English to become a citizen?
Most applicants must show basic English. There are age-based exemptions: applicants over 50 with 20 years as a permanent resident, and applicants over 55 with 15 years as a permanent resident, can take the interview in their preferred language. Medical exemptions also exist.
How do I prepare for the interview and civics test?
IHF runs interview practice and civics test prep in English and Spanish. We work through the questions with you so you know what to expect at the USCIS office.
What is a DOJ-accredited organization?
It means IHF is recognized by the U.S. Department of Justice to provide immigration legal representation. Our accredited representatives are authorized to prepare your application and represent you before USCIS.
