From engagement to green card

The K-1 fiancé(e) visa lets your fiancé(e) enter the U.S. so the two of you can marry within 90 days. After the wedding, your spouse applies for a green card through adjustment of status, which is a separate case from the K-1 petition. The K-1 is only available to U.S. citizens, not permanent residents.

The process has strict rules: you must have met in person within the last two years, both of you must be legally free to marry, and you must commit to the financial sponsorship. IHF helps you put together the petition, the evidence, and the timeline.

Who qualifies

• You are a U.S. citizen.
• Your fiancé(e) is a foreign national living outside the U.S.
• You have met your fiancé(e) in person within the last two years (limited exceptions apply).
• Both of you are legally free to marry (any prior marriages ended in divorce, annulment, or death).
• You intend to marry within 90 days of your fiancé(e)'s arrival.
• You meet the income requirements to sponsor your fiancé(e).

   Photos together, communication records, travel records, statements from family and friends, and proof of in-person meetings.

   We prepare your fiancé(e) on what the U.S. embassy will ask and what to bring to the interview.

   After the wedding

   We help your spouse file Form I-485 for the green card and prepare for the USCIS interview. Note: adjustment of status is filed as a separate case after your wedding.
